What Anani is
Anani is a translation tool for comparing many languages side by side.
Language data
Our language metadata is pulled from Wikidata via the Wikidata Query Service. We use it for language names, native names, ISO codes, writing systems, countries, speaker counts, and some status metadata.
The app currently pulls a broader internal dataset so the frontend can decide how much to show without requiring a new data fetch each time.
Attribution and license
Wikidata structured data is published under CC0. That means attribution is not legally required for the data itself. We still credit Wikidata here because it is the source of the language metadata used by the app.
Our current language dataset is based on structured data returned from Wikidata queries, not media from Wikimedia Commons.
Translation support lists
The set of languages shown as translation-capable is further filtered by the translator support data bundled in this app, including Google, DeepL, and M2M support metadata.
